About the editor

Who maintains this site, how the figures are checked, and what the site will not claim.

Every guide on this site is written and maintained by Eleanor Whitfield, who is responsible for the sizing figures published here and for the process that checks them.

What this role covers

  • Writing and revising the measuring, conversion and fit guides.
  • Maintaining the reference table that every chart and the calculator read from.
  • Reviewing corrections sent in by readers, jewellers and manufacturers.
  • Deciding what the site will not claim, which matters as much as what it will.

How the figures are checked

Naming an editor is about accountability. So it is worth being specific about what that accountability rests on. Sizing data gets copied between websites without checking, and an error introduced once spreads quietly. This site is built so that cannot happen unnoticed.

One source of truth
Every size figure on every page is generated from a single reference table. No page carries its own copy, so two pages cannot disagree.
Arithmetic rather than transcription
Circumference is calculated from diameter, not copied from a chart. That is why the two columns always reconcile.
Automated verification
A test suite of 278 checks runs against the data. It confirms four things. Diameter and circumference reconcile through pi. Each UK letter matches its own published circumference to within 0.05 mm. EU/ISO values round correctly and sizes ascend without gaps. And the data sent to your browser is the same data used to print the charts.
Stated limits
Ring sizing has no single enforced global standard. Published charts differ between manufacturers by up to roughly a quarter of a size. Every page carrying a number says so.

Editorial position

Three commitments shape what appears here.

  1. No claim the site cannot support Where a figure is an estimate, it is described as one. Where a method is unreliable, the page says so — including where that method is this site's own calculator.
  2. No commercial influence There is no advertising, no affiliate links and no sponsored placements. Nobody pays to be mentioned. A retailer or material is named because it is relevant, not because of any arrangement. More on how the site is funded
  3. Corrections are acted on If a figure here disagrees with your bench standard, we would rather hear it than have the discrepancy stand. Report a correction

Where this site defers to a jeweller

A website converts a measurement. It cannot feel how a ring sits. It cannot test whether the ring clears your knuckle, or allow for the band you are buying. For an engagement ring, a wedding band, or anything that cannot be resized, a jeweller with metal sizing rings will beat this site.

Saying that plainly is part of the editorial position rather than a qualification of it.
