Can You Measure Ring Size From a Photo?

Apps and AI tools claim they can calculate your ring size from a photograph of your hand. The honest answer? They cannot accurately measure a bare finger.

Why Photo Measuring Fails

1. Lack of Absolute Scale

A photograph of a hand has no verifiable real-world scale. Even if you place a coin next to your hand, camera lenses create distortion (parallax error) which artificially inflates or shrinks objects depending on their distance from the lens.

2. Finger Depth Matters

A 2D photo only captures the width of a finger from one angle. Fingers are not perfectly cylindrical; they are often wider at the knuckle and flatter on top. A ring must fit the 3D circumference, which a photo fundamentally cannot capture.
